Description:

Hi guys, first timer here and relatively fresh to 3D work.

A few questions regarding mats and workflow. The leather is driving me up the wall. I feel like the reflection and glossiness might be fine but the fresnel IOR isnt quite right for smooth furniture leather (not suede). Additionally I wonder if SSS is applicable to this leather?

I'd like to add some seams on the side corners. What is the typical workflow for this? I wanted to avoid unwrapping and considered several planar maps on different channels, one for each corner, with perhaps a little displacement for the seams. What is most expedient?

Thanks.

the chair looks really nice; however, if the intent is to have black leather, then it looks washed out. I was looking at some leather chair references on Google Images and they all seem to be very dark black with strong reflections; well depending on the lighting. I personally have not tried rendering leather enough to add suggestions for the materials. You may want to add a few creases on the ottoman or even a few on the chair.

This is a better shot. Indeed, the leather has been driving me nuts. It still looks more like vinyl to me. I ended up modeling the corner seams but am unsure of the best way to add in stitching short of unwrapping the dang thing. Agreed, the fabric needs some gentle buckling radiating from seams and stitching.
