jonasthomas
Hello, I am new in the business of architectural visualisation. I have made a new website and a logo: Citypixels I live in Belgium, so the website is in Dutch, I'm sorry for that. If you click on "projecten", you'll see my projects. (portfolio doesn't show everything) In the past 3 years I have already done freelance work, but it was more graphical design and photoshop. This is my personal blog where I post all the creative work I do: Pieter Léon Vermeersch Blog I have had also some "free" non-commercial work in a couple of expositions. Up to this point I have done only one real arch viz project for my uncle and aunt who own an architecture firm. Now is the time where I have to contact building firms and architects to sell my services to. What do you guys thinks? Is this a good start? I am a bit unsure about the amount of work I can show to the firms I contact. Thanks for having a look!
Justin Hunt
You have a good base to start with, and a good eye which will stand you in good stead. As for your arch viz work its quite basic and will develop with time. I think if you were to contact other firms to work it would be a good idea to add more architectural work, even if its just personal projects. As I said you have a good eye so keep at it jhv
artmaknev
You have nice portfolio, don't just get stuck with arch-viz stuff, I think you should apply for motiongraphics / advertising companies as well, you have a more creative side to things than just arch-viz stuff. heni30
Your site is very well done and professional looking. I would work on carrying your renderings a step further - add more entourage, people cars, etc. Right now things look kinda bare bones. But you're definitely off to a good start. Can't stress the importance of networking enough. Go to architecture happy hours; go to presentations, lectures, join your local professional organization. The professional grapevine is an invaluable resource.
rafaellopez
Hi Jonas Great site, I would say just continue posting your work. I am starting freelance work too, what I have done is send out my portfolio to some of the architectural firms around. I will agree to diverse your self in other graphic presentation, I myself are working on mechanical medical and scientifical illustrations. You have a good understanding on lighting and modeling. It take a lot of hard work when freelancing, budget well your time and cost of the projects. Just my (2) two cents. Hope it helps.
dougjohnston1
What is a good way to find out price point for modeling lots of detail and v-ray renderings for interior work on luxury homes. I just want to make sure I am not under bidding the jobs. I know people charge different depending on what country your from. Here in the US what is the base pricing to produce bad ass renderings of interior and model everything custom? I can never get straight answer if you don't want to post it on public form please email me in private. Dougwjohnston@yahoo.com It would be greatly appreciated!!!! Just trying to make it through the down turn and want to be smart about it. I don't want to be pricing it low because I didn't know what the industry standards are. I am not a freelancer I am a design build company for exterior on luxury projects and it has moved me into interiors for clients on 10,000 to 30,000sf residential homes. I have a project coming up right know that the client wants me to price out the interiors on a 20,000sf home and they want to model every room and rendered out. I don't want to under bid this project or over bid it. This is a project we just finished design build on http://m.youtube.com/user/dougwjohnston?feature=guide I am just looking for help? jonasthomas
Hello everyone, Thanks for all the useful comments! I think I'll do what you guys say, and work a little bit more on some new work to prove my skills in 3D design. In the meanwhile I will already try to contact some architects and so on. (I have to earn some money) A small question: if you have never met them, would you rather try to make an appointement with an architectural/ developer firm or would you just email them? artmaknev
It is extremely difficult to get a freelance gig from architecture firm, they have their own connections that they use, and probably not willing to easily give work to a total stranger, no matter how good the portfolio looks. However, you get lucky, they might need renderings and their connections might be too busy to take on extra work, so that is where you come in, but again, its really tough. Justin Hunt
Always worth a try. I have never met some of my longest standing clients, spoken on the phone and email of course:-)
