AubreyM
I have no idea what Microsoft was thinking trying to force desktop users to use a tablet OS. I am never installing Win8 on my PC. IMHO go back to Windows 7, leave 8 for your tablet.
tecksenglam
thats what i was thinking........w8 just slow the 2013 so badly~ that only happened to the viewport, but the rendering time is awesome

The only "Tablet OS" part is the new once called "Metro" interface. That is a stupid thing to add for sure, but technically the base OS is just the same. Most important: are you using the most recent hardware drivers (graphics especially) etc ? I personally would NEVER upgrade a system i have to work with, right after a OS release, until half a year or so has passed and the first wave of glitches got fixed in a servicepack and updates

The idea that you have to upgrade to the latest software/hardware as soon as they are released is a certain blueprint for disaster. You can't treat hardware/software that earns you money like the latest smartphone. Also, test it out with Nitrous and check your viewport speeds. DirectX is usually going to be slower in most cases and it may be amplified by Windows 8. Windows 8 isn't a bad OS, I have a dual boot to test it out for our workstations at work. However, it's just not 100% working at this time to trust it inside a rendering pipeline with deadlines. Metro is stupid without a touchscreen but there are 3rd party solutions out there to disable it and go right to the more classic start screen. Hopefully a future service pack for window 8 includes a native service to disable metro.
tecksenglam
i just did a google search about these w8 and w7 i noticed that in fact they are being developed in the same core. i did reformat the machine to a fresh W8 but the problem isnt overcome, still i have problem with the viewport. so regret to have it upgraded, cant get it downgraded now as the recovery are stored in my laptop. .......... oh my
Umesh Raut
One more lesson to learn, apart from all the above experienced talks recovery must be at hand along with all crucial data, if you plan to upgrade.
easy3dsource
I agree with Josef and Scott; windows 8 is still really new, and I'm willing to bet that the drivers for your video card either aren't up to date, or the manufacturer hasn't released a driver that is optimized for windows 8. As for windows 8 itself; I'm personally not opposed to it, and think that once all of the hardware / software incompatibility kinks get worked out, it'll be truly amazing. When apple first announced the ipad, I was ecstatic about the cool things you'd be able to do with that kind of an interface (I was using a tablet PC at the time). Instead, they released a device that is really only good for content consumption, not creation. I think that will change with windows 8 pro and microsoft surface.
