3dvizual
I am going to buy a mobile workstation. With a lot of power for 3ds max and Vray. Which laptop would you suggest. I have read about Dell's m6700 and MSI GT70 laptops. But don't know which configuration would be a good desktop replacement. I don't know if I should buy a laptop with quadro cards. Please give me some good advice.
Tommy L
You've a few options, when its a mobile workstation then im guessing weight is not a consideration, but maybe budget is? It seems to me the most difficult thing to find is a good GPU in a laptop. I got the Asus mega-machine with a NVidia 580m with 3Gig on the GPU, 12 gig RAM, i7 processor. Its cheap, heavy, fast and has a big screen. I'd recommend it if you dont have a spine condition and dont need a long battery life. It feels solid and well built http://usa.asus.com/Notebooks/Gaming_Powerhouse/G75VW/
3dvizual
I have thought about this one. http://www.fcomputer.dk/computer/b%C3%A6rbar/msi/gt70-0ne-468ne-16gb-core-i7-17.3%E2%80%B3-gf-gtx680m-4gb-b%C3%B8rstet-metal-sort.html So I guess this will be a good choice too.?? 3dvizual
The only issue I have with Boxx is that the company is mostly present in US and Canada. So I am a little concerned with support/service. What about Dell M6700, is there a setup which would be good.? I can see that these computers only have Quadro cards and not Geforce cards. How will this be, if is this computer should be a mobile replacement for a desktop. I think I am going to do a lot of rendering on this image. The quadro cards, is this not only advantage if I use the Vray RT.?? I don't use Vray RT that much, maybe 10% of the time.

dougjohnston1
I just bought boxx system and the customer support is some of the best support I have ever had!!!!! I bought some new video cards and we where having issues witch is to be expected being the cards just hit the US market. We have been trying work through the bugs and boxx has supported me all the way through the issues. We just figured out what was wrong with the cards and Let me tell you it was worth it because the video cards are the fastest best price cards on the market to date!!! It's crazy how fast these cards are. Normal render with high production settings about two hours. The new cards under 30 to 40 min in 2048 x 1556 cpu production mode with passes. I am running few more test tonight on time but is crazy how fast it's rendering. Boxx is a great company and I know they are a little high but you get what you pay for!!! You can email me and I can give my Skype name and we can talk further. Dougwjohnston@yahoo.com
3dvizual
Hi Doug What is the graphics card included in you new machine.? Was it a Goboxx 1850.?
3dvizual
The HP 8770w is way more expensive than the Dell m6700 with a Quadro K4000 card. I think it is about 1800-2000$ more you haft to pay with almost the same specs.
