Gamma & Lut Settings Mismatch

I'm currently using Max 2012, and when I try merging a 2010 file, I get the Gamma & LUT Settings Mismatch Dialog box. It doesn't matter if I select Keep the System's, or Adopt the File's Gamma and LUT Settings, Max 2012 crashes. I changed the Gamma & LUT Settings in both versions, and I get the same result. I've done a google search, and a forum search on this site with no answer. I would appreciate any advice.
