TPU and EPU :)

on my asus p9x79 motherboard there are two switches

TPU-TurboV Processing Unit

EPU –Energy Processing Unit

 

I read somwhere if one is on, second must be turned off? Also if this is something good why is turned off by default, and why have switch if is so great?

As architect, autocad revit 3dsmax ps are programs that I use, do I need to turn them on or off ?

Is TPU going to overheat my CPU ?

These are almost completely irrelevant with 3DS Max or PS performance etc.

 

TPU is an Asus feature that allows better voltage control through the ASUS AI Overclock utility. (over-volting for the purposes of overclocking that is).

 

EPU is an onboard circuit that allows the mobo to sense when certain power hungry components are idling / unused and throttles power to them to save on energy.

 

Both of those are off by default.

Turning them on will have no affect in case of the TPU (unless you combine it with ASUS AI for actively overclocking) and no negative effect for EPU.

 

I Personally have EPU on with my overclocked P9X79 Pro and the system is perfectly stable. Do I get energy savings? Unfortunately I did not have the patience to setup a test for it (perhaps involving a Kill-A-Watt power meter). Since I fold with F@H when my system is not in use, I doubt there will be any real gain, as the system is almost 100% all the time - so at least I am positive when I talk stability - I had the system @ 100% almost 24/7 since the beginning of last August.
