Workstation costumization H.E.L.P !

Hi!

 

I need help with workstation costumization for 3ds max modeling ,Vray rendering,After Effects editing...

I decided for graphic card Gtx670 and now I need some help with choosing other componets ,that will perfect works with graphic card and software. Budget approx. 1200$/910€.

I would buy an Intel i7 processor, the "cheaper" ones are around $500 and I would say buy 24GB of RAM. You will need at least 2GB for every thread. Windows and other applications use 2-3GB. So you'll use around 20GB when rendering, but you better have more than just enough.

The CPU and the RAM would cost around $700.

There's a Xeon processor for $600. There are cheaper ones, but I think it's not too much money for that processor. It has 6cores/12thread and 3.3GHz per thread as I know. If you choose this, than you need a better motherboard and you should have more RAM than 24GB (maybe 32GB).

Since Dimitris hasn't yet returned from holidays , you should wait a while for his valued real world and practical advice. The core-i7 you should ideally go for will be either 37xx (3770 ??) or better still (but more expensive) 39xx with a rock solid motherboard and you would have future proofed it for at least 5 years, IMHO. Money well spent on a good mobo is the key, always.
