stayinwonderland
If this was a cylindrical pillar it would be easy. As it stands I'm not sure what the best practise is. It has a profile, but is square. Any suggestions? (see pillars below)...
Bruce Hart
One way is to use the Lathe modifier and make the segments 4 (so it's square). All you need to do is rotate 45 degrees an you're done. ...or you could also use the sweep modifier, without the need to rotate in plan. This could be an elevation profile of the column swept on a filleted rectangle. Edited December 29, 2012 by Bruce Hart
Ismael
Beat me to it Bruce, while I was making an example. I just learned that not long ago myself.
stayinwonderland
Which method did you use for those Ismael?
Ismael
Andy, I enlarged the image you provided a bit and roughly traced the profile attached. Next I applied a Lathe Modifier to it (note that Segments=4) as indicated and a VrayDisplacementMod on top. The material on the columns is just a basic Vray material with an RGB I picked off the image with a little utility called ColorPick.
