mistrymah Posted January 2, 2013 Share Posted January 2, 2013 INTERL CORE i7 3770 CPU - @3.40GHZ, MODEL DB75EN 16 GB DDR3 RAM CHANNELS - DUAL, Nvidia GT 520 1 GB WIN 7 PROFESSIONAL IS THIS A GOOD CONFIG since, my 3ds max 2010 keep son crashing while final rendering... also my engineers stated that 16 GB DDR 3 does nothing since, system uses GRAPHIC CARD memory?? MY WIN & DEVICE properties show 16 gb RAM (usable 4 gb) what does it means?? Kindly help since, this new system cost $736 .... Im a begineers and real frustrated with my projject crashing several times ... corrupting the concerned files... Did use AUTOBACK but I want to know Y is this happening... Dimitris Tolios Posted January 2, 2013 Share Posted January 2, 2013 The fact that the OS recognizes that you have 16GB, doesn't mean it can use it. Do you have Windows 32bit? If so, that means that the system cannot utilize more than 4GB of RAM - this is a 32bit limitation in Windows OS, regardless of version/generation thus far. You need 64bit in order to utilize more than 4GBs of RAM. Your engineer's have something confused. Mental Ray, VRay etc don't care about GPU memory when rendering. cg_Butler Posted January 8, 2013 Share Posted January 8, 2013 I agree. To check go to your control panel and system. In there it will tell the he system type. It will probably say 32 - bit Operating System. You'll have to install a 64 - bit system to utilize your RAM.
