bleeding_me
Hello friends. I've been through the forum trying to find what i'm attempting to achieve, but i didn't find. So I'm writing this post . So, I have a simple animation basically is only one object falling. And what i would like to know is how do i render to TGA the RGB pass and an AO (Ambient Occlusion) pass so that i can composite later ? For a single frame, what I do (and most people do) is activate the VFB from V-Ray, and use the Elements and at the end save the files. But in a 100 frame, there must be a way of saving the files automatically right ? Thank you all. Ricardo Monteiro
Chris MacDonald
Under the VRay Frame Buffer tab, tick the "Save seperate render channels" box. That should work.

Corey Beaulieu
Just don't use the VFB when you render.
bleeding_me
But if i don't user the V-Ray VFB, won't i loose the V-Ray Element pass ?
Corey Beaulieu
Nope. Whatever is setup to save in the Elements Rollout will save when the 3DS Max Render Frame Window is done. Test it on a single frame. I stopped rendering through the VFB a long time ago and have never missed an element.

Nic H
You should use the vray frame buffer if you are using vray. How else do you see the elements prior to the render being completed? Anyway as mentioned just ticked save separate render elements and dont use the main 3dsmax save output tab - use the one in the vray frame buffer tab. As far as an AO pass make a vray extratex element and put a vray dirt map in it with the radius you want (0.3 m etc) . it defaults to 8 sub divs on dirt so you may want to up it to 16 to get a smooth result if in doubt check spot3d.com vray manual. there is a lot of misinformation getting around about vray these days!
