How to settle updates of 3d Max and to change settings by default?

How to avoid uploading of some plugins and some updates of 3d Max, which I do not need? For example, I do not need everything about MentallRay (I use VRay for visualization), as well as Biped and so on.

And also, is it possible to create a shortcut or something like this to start 3d Max with different settings of interface, system units, etc?

For the first question the answer is no. Autodesk create a full package so they want you to update the whole thing.

if you don't use some features then it wont matter to you if they install or not.

For the second question, yes you need to go to the Customize menu, and in the same place that you create your shortcuts you have the option to save your configuration for that and everything else, such, menus, tool bars, quad menus etc.

The best way to do it is to open a new file, change everything you want (shortcuts, viewport settings, menus, everything) and save that file to maxstart.max (save as -> maxstart.max -> save). Next time you open Max, everything will be as you saved it. If you want to change something just open a new file again, make the changes and save to maxstart.max again.

You can do as Francisco said, save everything one by one, or you change just the shortcuts, than you save just that (or the menus etc). You can't save the viewport changes that way though, if you want to change that, you need to save the file to maxstart.
