jamierosssmith
G'day everyone, Long-time reader/lurker, new member and first-time poster! I'm simulating a workshop, with the intent of proposing a better lighting system. Unfortunately I cannot get IES files for the lights we currently have on site, but I've found an IES files which is very similar, but less powerful (250W vs. 400W HPS, 30,000lm vs. 48,000lm). I've read elsewhere that you can easily change the power of the emitter in the IES file, by adding a 'candela multiplier' line, or changing the first '1' to '1.6' (in this case). I've tried changing the one, and it doesn't work for decimals? If I change it to a 2, my software registers the light as a 60,000lm emitter, but if I change it to 1.6, it remains at 30,000. Secondly, I've tried using a 3rd party application to edit the IES file, by stipulating that I want a 1.6 multiplier, but when I save the file, the actual IES code hasn't changed? I've found a step by step guide as to adding a multiplier for previous IESNA standards, but none for the IESNA LM-63-2002 standard, which I'm using. Can anyone help? Cheers! Devin Johnston
Why don't you just change the power of the IES light in it's perameter settings?
jamierosssmith
I thought you had to use a multiplier, which then applied the change to all the power values at the various angles, as specified in the IES file itself? I've since found the '1.6' multiplier code in the IES from the IES editor program, but it doesn't seem to do anything.
Devin Johnston
The IES file is read by Max and all the editable information shows up as parameters in its properties panel, that's where you want to adjust how powerful the light is not in the .ies file. IDK where you found this code, it may have been the way to adjust the light many years ago before they were fully supported in Max, but that's not the way to do it now. jamierosssmith
My apologies, I should have specified which program I'm using! I'm using the LightUp plugin for Sketchup, which doesn't allow the same level of adjustment (read: no adjustment) that is offered by other programs (such as Max). Devin Johnston
Yea that does make a difference.
John Dollus
changing the multiplier in the ies file itself will not work for the program you are using. You will need to overide the actual lumen field in the ies file instead. not all programs use all of the data from the ies file spec. You can also try asking on the lightup support forum as well.
