Having trouble batch-connecting verts on an extruded ring

I want to quad this ring. I have done that on all sides but can't manage to batch 'connect' the verts on the front poly. (it's an extruded ring).

If I select all the verts on that front poly and choose connect you get the criss cross effect on the left of the image (I manually did a couple of edges near the bottom, but the messy ones are just above it).

Is there a way to grab them all and make them connect? Or some other trick?

Sorry you had to do this by hand.

In the future consider making a box with the number of subdivisions you want and then using the bend modifier to make it a ring. If you use and edit poly to delete the end faces, once the bend hits 360 degrees, you can just weld the ends together, collapse to an editable poly and go from there.

You can either use scale to get the size or if you have a specific size ring you need you can always use: PI x D or 2PI x R

I ended up doing it by hand. But for future reference, could you explain more? I'm not sure what 'criss cross connection' is or the quadify all?

Ok. I tried this on an extruded tube and it worked. Select all the verts you want to connect. Click Connect and you get the connections you want plus the diagonal new edges (the criss cross thing you mentioned?) Now convert to Editable Poly and then open the Graphite Modeling Tools ribbon and in the Geometry (All) section there is a tool called Quadrify All; click it and all the diagonals disappear. You can choose to quadrify only selected sub-objects.

Hope it helps. ;)
