stayinwonderland
I've been posting on various forums that have specific categories for zbrush users and I get literally no responses. Seeing as this is just about the most helpful online community I've ever known I thought I'd throw this out and see if anyone here can help. Just some basic questions about exporting, nothing too fancy. I've only been using this for a couple of days. Incidentally, would be good to have a zbrush section here because it's incredible for realistic environments. Thanks!
copain
Hi Andy Not a master pro here, but do use it now and then. Exporting from Zbrush has become easy since they made the goZ plugin pumps it straight into (in my case Maya, set up with maps and everything). stayinwonderland
Hi Steve, thanks for getting back to me. I'm going to spend some time looking at GoZ as it seems to be the way forward. I think I'm exporting and saving incorrectly... but also bringing them into 3ds max incorrectly. Like, when bringing in displacement, I was bringing it into the vray displace material editor slot. I think it's supposed to be the vray displace modifier. I'm not sure about bit depth is the other thing. And, something that is bugging the hell out of me is cavity maps. You can trust me that I've tweaked and tweaked this, but every time I export a cavity map, I get something like this: This is a 800px crop from a larger 2048px texture. Incredibly pixely. Just comprised literally of single non-antialiased dots! Any experience with cavity maps? This is my model:
copain
Hi Andy are you using the multimap exporter for your cavity maps? It helps avoid any errors It comes with a good pdf manual http://www.pixologic.com/zbrush/downloadcenter/zplugins/ It should already be installed in your zbrush menu plugins. stayinwonderland
Thanks. I think it was something to do with a bug in the software. I tried it on a different version and it worked perfectly. But that plugin will be still worth checking out. Unless GoZ is just as good.
