skogskalle
hi all! its getting late, so if my spelling is wobbly, please forgive me. got a few questions for you... which one is faster? a single 4 GHz processor, or two processors at 2 GHz? (in rendering, and general viewport handling) and also, whats the deal with the cheaper cpu types, like celeron? How much slower are they compared to a P4? a system with 4 celeron cpus wouldnt cost very much I think, but would it be any good?? thanks in advance boys n girls! // Kalle
Harjeet Singh
i guess 4g is better than 2x2g. celeron doesn't have sufficient level2/3 cache so is not recommended for heavy computing like 3d or cad. p4 now has 1m cache which makes the flaoting point calculations faster. on the other hand celeron is ok for home/internet computing or regular stuff like ms-office etc. regards
skogskalle
thanks virses! this level 2/3 cache.... will it affect both realtime 3D speed, and renderings? If it doesnt have much impact on rendering it would be great to use celerons for an extra render-computer.... ??
Zdravko Barisic
First You CAN NOT put 4 Cellys on 4CPU board!, only 4 P4 or 4 XEONS Buy some old P4 (533/512c 2.4P4)....The only good Celly Is TUALATIN PIII (1-1.1-1.2-1.3-1.4GHz), but is PIII platform, nowadays find some old P4 (even P4 1.7 is better than Celly 2.8)....athlon? forget it....it is just propaganda
upshot
All I can tell you is that my dual 2.4 xeon with 1gb ram at 533 outbenchmarked my 3.2 northwood with 512mb ram at 800.... *shrug*
