Autodesk Money Machine.

Yeah, our whole company just got swindled into the Building Design Suite. We normally bought AutoCAD/Revit for AutoCAD/Revit users, Max for Max users, and a few floating licenses to cover the I just need this software for a few minutes cases. Now we have licenses for software people will never use. We also have new software that maybe we could implement, but we don't have the downtime for training and getting familiar with it.

The fixed suites are the worst thing Autodesk ever did. Now, if they did a-la cart suites, that would be smart. You pay and you can choose 2,3,4,5, etc options.

not sure about the UK but here's the info on the US changes:

http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/pc/item?siteID=123112&id=20673509

This is different from the original posters question as it deals with UPGRADE prices. But there is another email/link making rounds currently that subscription prices go up again too !!

But as the original poster mention, no info about the amount they will go up ...

Here's the link, don't know wether this will be uk only or not ( is on the UK autodesk page )

The problem is that whilst we all find their pricing increases and subscription structure hard to swallow and very confusing, we'll all just keep on using their products due to the "critical mass" that they have in terms of a user base, and the sheer amount of training/help/plugins available that you just wouldn't get if you picked another (and arguably better) piece of software.

Chris:

This might be mostly true in the Archiviz sector and is till valid to some degree in the Film/Games/VFX sector, where you have even more Autodesk domination ( Max,Maya, Softimage)

But speaking of 3ds Max here:

Max was for long time a perfect package for small Shops and Freelance users who do a bit of everything ( Games, Animation, Rendering and visualization), but that's not true any longer. Today they can find perfect toolsets outside the Autodesk infrastructure. Sure you need tools to work with customer data, which might come in in Autodesk format, but after that, you are free to use whatever you like ...

I would'nt still be with my Max subscription ( bought in in the summer for 3 yrs. when all those price hikes were announced ) if i did' nt plan to continue further development ( Maxscript etc... )

For the plain content creation part of my business (Gamedevelopment, some Rendering etc..), working with a total non-Autodesk toolset would be no problem at all. And that'S a thing Autodesk does'nt seem to see/recognize...
