Stephen Hughes
Hi Guys Does anybody on here have a workstation / hardware config that runs, say, a typical high detail evermotion interior scene on vray rt gpu? So that when lighting, material or camera changes are made the feedback is instant (or at least about a second or less). ATM i have an i7 2600K with 16GB ram and GTX580 1.5GB and for exterior scenes of average/high detail, VrayRT on both CPU and GPU are pretty quick at giving feedback but when i try a typical interior scene it slows down pretty bad, only updating after about 5-6 seconds. I know obviously there are certain materials / detailed models that will be particular to every scene, but just wanted to know as a standard practice if anyone has Vray RT running in a window throughout their entire lighting/material/camera placement stage of completing their scene? I find this is the most crucial part of creating a visual, and so far the time wasted on rendering drafts of every change of a detailed interior is costing me a lot of time. Any thoughts?? Dimitris Tolios
Well, RT or not, interior scenes have always been much more complex (bounce wise) than exterior scenes. All renderers are slower producing interiros. There are no consumer cards that would offer you noticeably better performance than what you have, and CPUs are kinda irrelevant for RT GPU (after a certain point). Truth is, the GTX 580 is probably the fastest (working) Vray RT GPU solution right now. The only way to get more speed, is add more cards...if 1.5GB is enough for you, the better - 580 1.5 are easier and cheaper to come up with in the used market, but mixing cards with any VRam configuration is not an issue - ofc if you have 1x 1.5GB card, and 1x 3GB card, only the latter will render if say a scene requires >1.5GB (actually 1.3 or so, as most apps take up at least 200-250MB just to display). How big is your PSU?
