3DS Max 2.5D snap not working

Just wondering if any of you have had this happen before...

My 2.5d snap is acting like a 3d snap, I have of course checked all the usual things such as "am I in top view", and is "2.5d snap actually on?" and all I can summise from it is that the 2.5d snap is actually broken somehow.

I've tried resetting my snaps, I've tried starting a new scene and resetting but to no avail, it continues to snap to things on the Z axis. I have for years now said that 3ds max's snap system is like working with an antique and that it's long needed an overhaul, but when even the most basic of its features breaks... It's just ludicrous.

I'll take back my rant if someone can point me in the direction of a fix.

[edit] Restarting max rather than going to file/new seems to fix the problem in new files, but when I open the file I'm working in it reverts back to being problematic again.

Are you guys by any chance using Max 2014? There seems to be a problem with the snap tool that makes the 2.5D snap behave like the 3D. From my experience, it seems this is actually more related to the snap button than anything else: when you find the snap behaving oddly, change to 3D and then to 2.5D again. That should do (until the next hotfix).
