vojislavmarkovic
Hi everyone! I'm trying to make realistic chrome text.I made reflective material, assigned it to the objects, made HDRI map and assigned it to the reflective environment as you can see on my print screen, but when I render, sphere reflects environment and text don't.Text is simple max text converted to poly and I add little chamfer to edges to make bevel. What am I doing wrong? Is it possible to make realistic chrome text something like on the other picture that I have attached? vojislavmarkovic
Too flat... Flat surfaces should also reflect environment or am I wrong?
dhammikaherath
I think that ref image done in Photoshop...
matthewgriswold
I think your material isn't setup properly. Set the diffuse color to black and un-check Fresnel. The chamfer looks really small. Try increasing the depth of the text and broaden out your chamfer.
vojislavmarkovic
Thank you all for respond! @Ismael Orozco Flat surfaces should also reflect environment or am I wrong? That is how it works in the real world but in 3D programs hard to achieve. @Dhammika Herath Yeah you are right!Ref image was made in Photoshop and made by me. But Im trying to achieve this effect in 3D Max. @Matt Griswold I tried every possible setting but what I cant accomplish is to flat surface also reflect.Thats confuses me.In the real world flat surfaces also reflect environment. It looks like in 3D program is not possible to fully imitate real world. :/
Stephen Thomas
The flat text is reflecting correctly, but as the lights are on the ceiling and your camera is level with the text it is reflecting a grey wall at the moment. Increasing the bevels on the text will allow those angles to catch highlights from other parts of your scene environment.
