HawkPoint3D
I am going to be building Architectural Virtual sites using REVIT, MAX2013 and UNITY3D pro. I am looking for advice..specifically in the video and memory areas. I currently have 16 gigs ram and a GTX550 ti. I have to turn off hardware acceleration in REVIT, since the VIDEO card or driver has refresh issues with the software. I usually get models from other engineers in REVIT. Then I add what I need to the build using REVIT or MAX and then use the assets in Unity. 550 series cards are cheap...anything better for what I am doing that won't break the bank? I really would like to turn acceleration back on in revit btw...lol!!
Scott Schroeder
I think you need to worry about how poorly optimized Revit models are for real time applications like Unity over your video card. What is your end target audience? Will they have a NASA quality video card or just using the graphics accelerator in their computer? Sure, Unity may run smoothly on your system but the end audience may get only 1-2 fps out of it. You can't just use the good ole shove it in there and hope it works pipeline with Unity. Then if it doesn't work, just upgrade your video card. If you feed it proper models and textures, it'll be able to run smoothly (30-60 fps) on just about anything. If you feed it crap, crap performance is what you will get. Edited February 27, 2013 by VelvetElvis
HawkPoint3D
Oh..forgot to mention I am not a newcomer to optimized modeling! I am a MAX user of many years...and I plan on using a plugin for MAX called flatiron to bake in the lighting and textures in max before going to Unity. Also rebuilding some of the geometry from REVIT in max for reduction of polys.
