Problems with distributed rendering

Hi guys,

I'm trying to make small render farm with my main computer and three other machines I have at my office.

I followed these tutorials:

http://vray.info/tutorials/vray_distributed_rendering_and_backburner/default.asp

http://lounge.ego-farms.com/showthread.php?t=2193

-and they were very helpfull and I managed to got all comps to render with full capacity but there is now way to make them find maps from the scene!!!

I made home network, added other comps, bring down firewalls on all of them, created UNC paths that runs through network back to the maps and still nothing!!!

I have no idea what can be the problem here and your help would be more than welcomed!

First, make sure you register Vray spawner as a service on all machines and that you launch Vray DR spawner on all computers. This is found under the Chaos Group folder under distributed rendering.

Second, try creating the same username (example: RenderSlave) on each computer, via User Accounts in the control panel. Then right-click your entire maps folder and click properties. Click the sharing tab and click the Share button. Now type the Username you created on all the computers into the box and click Add. (Make sure you are logged in on all the other computers with that username).

Third, make sure all maps are through the network path and not the local path such as C:\\maps. Do this for each map in your scene via the Asset Manager located under the Application Button (the big M).

This should remedy the issue assuming that the computers are all talking to each other.

Thanks for your feedback guys! But still no breakthrough with fu.... dr!!!

Jason: I registered Vray Spawner and created separate accounts with full sharing. Textures are mapped through network with correct UNC paths \\MainCPC\...

Maknev: It's not wireless connection, we are conncected via LAN conection ports.

IF you have any ideas left please share... I'm not sure what else is left.

Thanks in advance!

Can you describe what happens in the vray dialog box? Does it send the rendering to the other computers? I have had issues with Windows 7 where if all the computers are not on the same domain it will not render. Right-click on My Computer and go to properties. Then click Change Settings on the right under domain and workgroup settings - if you need to change it.

Stupid question, but you did tell vray where to find the license right?

Yes, main comp distributes job to other comps and they do render with max capacity but they can't pull maps from network. I tried backburner also and he managed to get the maps from network but I had another problem with it, he wont distribute job to all comps.

But to get back on subject, I did named main comp, slaves and home group in MyComp like it was described in vrayinfo.tut i attached in my first message.

I'm not sure I understood you regarding telling vray where to find licence, can you please explain that part a bit more?

P.S. Screen is attached in this mail.

That may be your issue. Go into the Licensing folder under Chaos Group on all slave machines. Click Change Vray License Settings. When that box pops up, you probably see "localhost" in the License server. Under the Alternate license server 1, add the IP address of the main computer. This will tell the render nodes to look at the host computer to trigger the licensing. See if that works.

Ok. So I managed to run succesfull render on one of my "slaves" :) It's obviously problem with permisions... My main comp isn't comunicating with other but can take textures from my other computer... it's all really confusing... I will run renders through "slave" :)

Many, many thanks for your help Jason, it was very helpfull to understand the whole proces!
