Chris MacDonald
A couple of weeks ago I had to reformat my PC and reinstall all the relevant software. Last night I had some renders that needed to be out for this morning... Forgot to turn off windows updates. PC turned itself off at 3am. No renders this morning. jameswelch
Oh Man! I feel for you. I've had this happen to me before... had 3 desktops set up to render through backburner through the night. Not long after I left the office, the machine with the manager on went into hibernate mode!! AAgggh Won't make that mistake again
Devin Johnston
I used to have problems like this where machines and even backburner would crash and jobs wouldn't finish, it became a big headache for me. I decided to use a 3rd party render management software which was able to send out email alerts and even has a smart phone app to let me monitor the rendering process. I've been using it for about two years now and haven't missed a single deadline due to technical problems.
Scott Schroeder
Yep, had the same thing happen. After my ranting and raving and teaching anyone within 100 miles of my location at least 25 new swear words, I now have that great windows feature turned off and I've also implemented a process that auto logs windows into the the server mode after 15 minutes of sitting idle at the log in screen. This helps prevent random restarts and the machine just sits.
Tommy L
Hey Scott, you can disable login also. If I want to restart my farm now I just turn it off at the wall and turn it on again. login, server, DR etc is all automated. Awesome! But yes, I have had the OP problem and it warrants a quick rant. Scott Schroeder
Oh yeah you are right, I could do that now. That log in was just a thing I've carried around back in the day when I had roommates and didn't want to leave my machine open to random hairy dong wallpapers. Nick_E
Hey Devin, what is the name of the 3rd party render management software you use? I lost most of a weekend of rendering because our office lost power on a Saturday morning. Thanks, Nick
