PGD
So I've just imported a SketchUp model into 3DS 2013, its not a huge model at 7mb/850k polys - but its really slow to work with Every mouse click seems to take about 8 seconds to compute. Select an object, wait 8 seconds for a reaction. Turn the layer off, wait.. turn another layer on, wait.. Click, wait.. Click wait.. I've not had the issue before, even with a Huge scene modeled in CAD yesterday which was over 18million polys. So I cant think why the SketchUp file would be such a problem. Any idea on how I can resume a normal work speed?
Corey Beaulieu
CAD to Max tends to work just fine. Sketchup, however, not so much. Try collapsing layers into a single object or collapsing by materials. A big/slow file with a few poly's usually means too many objects. Also, Splines are a heavy bit. Try deleting them all. Perhaps you exported face edges as splines.
PGD
Brilliant. Spotted a fence in there which was made up of thousands of splines, deleted them and all is well. The File size more than halved too! Thanks for pointing that out
