davidsharratt
Hello, I am new to 3ds Max and I am trying to figure out a workflow that enables massing in 3ds and more detailed modeling in Revit. I have exported as a dwg and dxf to revit both directly to a project and to a mass family and I am unable to use the select by face tool. Anybody kind enough to offer some suggestions? Thank you, David
Scott Schroeder
You must be new to forums as well. Please ask this question in the proper section, ie the 3ds Max section. This is not a general discussion topic. You have your workflow completely backwards. Most places do massing in Revit then do the detail modeling in 3ds Max. Max objects in Revit are pretty much useless to Revit since they are two different modeling systems, ie solid and parametric. Off topic rant...... I get the feeling people just post in the first topic section they see, which just happens to be general discussions.
Sauger
I used this trick make imported sites/roads/curbs etc look nice, also made some wild masses. If not need different material id´s/layers, you can skip the Autocad part, and just import direct into new mass study, DWG might work too!, never tested DWG since DXF works fine, you can control details of facades quite nicely via what edges you hide/unhide if link the DXF file. Huge thanks to Pedro who did the tube Edited March 23, 2013 by Sauger
davidsharratt
This is very helpful, thank you Sauger and Pedro. I am still unable to place walls or floors by face - perhaps this is an insurmountable limitation?
Sauger
Mass tools can be a bit picky with complex shapes, but walls should not be that difficult. Can you post an image of the shapes, or better a link to the max ver. I managed to import a giant golfbag made in Rhino, and put walls on it
