Ned help with choice x2*e5-2760 or i7 3930

I need to make a choise between x2*e5-2760 or i7 3930

have a chance to buy x2-2760 system for 2400$

what will be the difference in speed?

I'm working in 3d max. vray.

I would buy that system for $2400 just to sell it even if i did not need one...I assume you mean e5-2670, so we are talking $3200 retail on the CPUs alone...2400 is a pretty good price.

 

To put it into perspective: E5-2670 = 8 cores / 16 threads * 2.6GHz = 41.6GHz each.

2P system with E5-2670 = 2 * 41.6 = 83.2GHz.

 

3930K = 6 cores / 12 threads * 3.3GHz = 39.6 GHz.

3970X = 6 cores / 12 threads * 3.5GHz = 42.5 GHz.

 

Long story short, if we are talking low end 2P Xeons or 1P w/e, the hex i7s for s2011 win (especially if you clock em).

If you can drop serious cash on 2P system with top of the line Xeons, you will be faster in renderings, by far, yet still a tad slower in single threaded stuff.
