Hi, im working with 3ds Max for a bit now and i'm having some troubles.

I'm terrible modeling in Max, so i make everything in Sketchup.

So i followed this nice tutorial of Peter Guthrie:

Still i have not managed to get a nice lighting. This is the result:

Don't pay any attention to the materials, it's far from done.

With the following options:

Another problem is the grass surface. I'm lazy ;) so i'm using the Autograss plugin. It's ok for me, but a bumpy surface would be nice. Thats possible in the options of a plane (segs+displace), but my imported mesh does not have these opions.

Any solutions will be very welcome!

Greets,

Are you using a VRay Camera or the Environment Exposure Control? Whichever it is, it looks like you might need to adjust the exposure settings.

There was also a follow-up tutorial that Peter posted a little over a year ago that explains using the gamma adjustment to produce more contrast in the lighting from an hdr/exr:

This could eliminate the need for using a VRay Sun.

Are you sure all your render settings are correct? Also, there seems to be some unknown light source in your scene. The edge of your shadows seems a bit to sharp to be generated from an HDRI. Maybe there is a conflict in your lighting somehow?

Adding a noise modifier is an option for your ground mesh, to just add some random bumpiness. Or do you mean you need more segments?
