Francisco Penaloza
I am not sure what is your issue, but The latest version of Max been optimized to use Nitrus or Diret X, hardware render is very slow, and forget about Open GL. any ways to manage that you need to go to Customize -> Preferences-> view ports, at the bottom you'll see choose driver button, click on that one to get different options, You'll need to re-start Max every time to see the effect. You got good Autodesk Dealers around there, they recommend something but they don't know what it does lol. Fco.
Scott Schroeder
Render Setup -> Common Tab -> Assign Renderer? Are you talking about Iray and Mental Ray (or Vray RT and Vray)? Are you talking to Autodesk help or Autodesk dealers? The dealers may not know much about the software, they just sell the stuff. I don't talk to the car salesman if I have an issue with my car, I talk to the mechanic.
Francisco Penaloza
I though he was talking about view port performance, well if he is talking about final rendering, well yes all that in on the rendering tab, for V Ray and Mental Ray.
Scott Schroeder
I have no idea either, but I was just guessing at real time versus traditional rendering.

Francisco Penaloza
IMHO Max 2013 viewport performance is horrible, it was bad on 2012 but even thent was faster, now Max is designed to run "better" with nitrus or direct X, if your card works better on Open GL model I am surprise and happy for you The lower performance that you may be experiencing may be just because your card can not handle more. Lost of people say GTX card work wonderful for them but really all depend of your scene, a big architectural development with millions of polys and thousand meshes, will perform absolutely different to 1 Character of millions of polygons or a high density car. That's way long time I go I decided bite the bullet and get a Quadro video card. 3d Max video performance still bad not it is tolerable. I always compare with MDOD and Cinema 4D other software that I also use for the same architectural visualization.
Guest dialog
Try viewport clipping. We use cards that are not certified and we find this helps with performance. It was recommended by Autodesk to try this (We have a full subscription to their service)
