jaquelinemedrado
Hi guys. I'm an aspiring interior designer from Italy, currently learning 3DS Max. I'm following a Digital Tutor tutorial and I'm trying to solve a problem I really can't figure out by myself. The teacher tells me to select the edges of the upper part of the walls I've created, then click on "Create shape from selection" in order to convert the edges to splines. The problem is that nothing happens in my project. I correctly select all the edges, click on create shape from selection but I don't have any new shape. I also click H and it tells me that, apart from the existing elements, there are no newly created ones. Is this a bug? Or am I missing something? Thank you Jaqueline
Scott Schroeder
What happens when you click on create shape? Does the dialog pop up that has the name and if you want it to be linear or curved? If that is not popping up, then you have a geometry issue that is preventing you from creating edges. Can you post a screencap of the geometry that you want to use with edge faces on so we can see the model edge flow?

Yes it shows up - I click on "linear" then confirm and it's at that point that nothing happens. I'll post a screenshot asap
Corey Beaulieu
Is your current layer visible and are splines visible (shift+s)?
jaquelinemedrado
Is your current layer visible and are splines visible (shift+s)? Yes my layer is visible. I've pressed shift+s and nothing happens. I pressed H and I've activated "Display Hidden Objects" and now all the splines I've created appear there. I've tried double clicking one, I now see it in the modify tab but can't see it selected in the viewports. And if I try to select it from there (from the viewport) it just selects my wall (editable poly).
Scott Schroeder
Is your selection filter set to "All" and not perhaps "Geometry"? It's right under the "tools" menu. If it is set to anything other than "all" or "shapes" you won't be able to select anything that is not of the type set to filter, lights, helpers, etc.
jaquelinemedrado
I just noticed that I was creating them in an another layer! This was really a beginner mistake, sorry for bothering!
