making of high resolution pdf files

Hello everybody here,

I have an query which is not directly related to software or making 3d views. Am facing problem making pdf presentation files. I am trying to use rendered files which are in jpg at 2400 resolution, and then using around 20 of them to make the multi-page pdf. Either the pdf file size is getting too big while am trying to preserve the quality or if I make the pdf optimize, the quality of the output file is going down.

I dont know what is the proper procedure to a pdf multi page files using images. I want to use 2400 resolution in a pdf file which should not be much heavy in size and at the same time should show the image clarity.

I will appreciate any tips, thanks in advance!

What will the final PDF be used for? I think the final PDF size will be directly related to your JPG sizes in MB's. You can't really have a small PDF with good clarity, unless your images arew smaller to begin with. When creating the PDF it will use the compression settings you tell it to use for images, hence the less compression you use the bigger the PDF and better quality.

If you know what the maximum size of print, or display will be for your PDF you can work out how big your images actually need to be and resizxe accordingly.

If they need to be 2400 pixels, then i don't think you can get around it, unless you save them in photoshop with compression settings that you're happy with and then don't do any compression in the PDF.

Give that a try.

Hi Andy,

thanks for your response!

The pdf will mainly be used for just viewing on the monitor or occasional printing. This is a basically a portfolio of works that I am trying to compile. Am trying to keep the image clarity as good as possible so when the pdf is zoomed on monitor the image doesnt get distorted much, also since I will prefer to send them to inbox, I want to keep the size down as well.

So I was looking for a solution, I tried some combination of using compression ratio and pdf file size but I was not getting satisfied. I will still try some other compression algorithm as you mentioned in your writing above, and will update you.

Thanks again and I will let you know once I find a good balance of the file size and image clarity.

you definitely should reduce the image sizes then. If it's maily screen resolution you could reduce the PDF size by making the jpegs 1500 pix for the longest dimension and changing the dpi to 72, if it's anything higher than that. Change the dpi first, then the resolution. ;-)

Screen resolutions vary a lot, but no need to go 2400 pix really.
