Studio/Institution: Self
Genre: Residential Exterior
Software: 3DS Max/Vray
Description:

I've put this in WIP but I'm done with it really. I'm spent a lot of time tinkering but it still looks pretty terrible. It's this camera angle with this lighting.

Only post done is add the sky. I'm self taught/not very experienced so any suggestions to make it look more realistic are welcome.

Thanks in advance.

First off, It is a good start. It is definitely something that you can work with and learn from. Your exposure settings and lighting look good so the rest is just details.

I think your sky isn't bright enough and the horizon doesn't match the render. I also think the deck material is too reflective. I don't think the water needs to have a bump really as pools often don't, but I do feel like you need to add a lot more stuff.

Things to add:Patio Furniture; Planting; A Car; Interior Furniture; a Person; etc... The power lines are a good touch, but what about the right side? looks like the house is at the top of a mountain.

As to your camera angle, I think it's a little weak, but not terrible. I think you should add more sky to the top of the image though (in post) and then just look to play of the stronger lines of the building lining them up with one of the thirds. The angle in the roof for instance could lead to the top left corner exactly or the inner edge of the left side of the building could land right on the left thirds. That sort of thing.

I would keep playing with this because it can and will look really nice. You will learn a lot from just trying to take it to better finish so I would encourage you to do so.

  • 2 weeks later...

Been working on other things but finally got round to finishing this off. I'm still not happy with it, the composition needs a lot of work but I couldn't move the camera too much as the unseen parts of the scene are incomplete. I learnt a lot though for next time so that's always good!

Let me know what you think.

Thanks.
