STRAT
greetings dudes i've recently installed windows SP2 on my Viz 4 machine, and all of a sudden Viz is playing silly buggers - it wont open/import and kinds of files, and it wont save/export any types of files. i've removed viz from the system and re-installed it too, with similar results. My I.T. manager is currently re-formatting the HD completely for a fresh windows install. Any body know of any WinXP SP2 and Viz4 conflict errors? or is it just one of those computery thingies? The same thing happened to me when I installed SP2, I called my VIZ sales rep and spoke with the tech there. There was a patch I needed that took care of the problem. See if you can make that phone call, if you need more help, let me know, I'll call my guy if need be. Good Luck Strat!! ---Strat, I took a quick look on Autodesk's website and there's a service pack (SP2) for VIZ that I think was what cleared up my problem. STRAT
cheers m8. i couldn't find any reference to the problem or a patch on autoDesk's web site, but i've left a message with my dealer to call me a.s.a.p. i've previously already installed viz sp2 but it had no effect perhaps it's the order in which it's installed maybe... seismograph
strat .. autodesk will say that there isn't a problem with viz but with windows and microsoft will say there isn't a problem with windows, but with viz. so it must be again the user who is the problem ... abicalho
Try adding -Q to the shortcut that launches VIZ. To do that, right-click the 3dsviz shortcut, choose properties, and add -Q after 3dsviz.exe. For instance, my shortcut looks like this: "c:\program files\autodesk viz4\3dsviz.exe" -q Let us know if it helps, Alexander
MJL Imaging
Ok, here's what I was told. According to the word by Autodesk, SP2 will not let VIZ run, apparently it isn't supported by windowsXP SP2. He suggested installing all of the windowsupdates, get VIZ running and go from there. You can try installing XP SP2, if it doesn't work, then go to Add/ Remove programs, and it'll let you uninstall SP2.
quizzy
You might think that Microsoft is coming out with their own 3D software... The same thing happened with W2K SP3.....

abicalho
-Q supresses the Splash Screen. VIZ and MAX 3 will only work under SP2 if you do that. I've seen some systems also require that for VIZ 4 and VIZ Render 2004. The symptom is to get a crash with an error 0x00000005 when you start the program. If you get that, the -Q solution should fix it. If it's something else, then it's new even to me, and I have XP SP2 on my 3 office machines and they all run MAX 2.5 - MAX 7, along with VIZ 2 - VIZ 2005. Juan Altieri
the problem is not viz, the problem is sp2, this pack have a lot of bugs, microsoft put a uninstaller program for sp2 in the website, because thousands of people have thousands of problems with this sp, IBM obligate microsoft to make a uninstall tool.... Telemachus
I had this problem a while back. I use both Windows XP SP2 and VIZ 4.2 and have no problems, now. IIRC, it has something to do with tweaking your C-Dilla Licensing Manager. Go to the following link and download the files at the top of the page under "License Manager RTS Update." Here is the link: http://www.alcad.de/cms/oldstyle/support/supportlinks.htm The RTS_3_27_000.exe zip file produces several folders. I think I used the NT folder, since XP is founded on NT technology. *** If the above doesn't work, try this info out that I got from the old Imaginit Technologies web site. Here is an old blurb from the .mht file I downloaded from that page: 27-03-2002 3.25 rts325010.exe 1.07 MB This License Manager Run-Time System (RTS) resolves the problem of repeated loss of authorization as a result of adding or removing external storage devices. This update is needed when Autodesk VIZ 4 is installed on Windows XP Professional. The link to the file is still active. I copied shortcut to the link: ftp://adeskftp.autodesk.com/prodsupp/downloads/rts325010.exe Also, if you parse the ftp link down to: ftp://adeskftp.autodesk.com/ you'll come across plenty of active folders that contain file updates and such that may help you out in other ways besides allowing you to get VIZ 4.2 to work on XP SP2. I'm a pack rat when it comes to keeping files that have helped me out in the past. I sure hope this helps, T
abicalho
Ofer, If your shortcut is inside quotes, you have to add -Q outside of the quotes. Example: "c:\program files\autodesk viz 4\3dsviz.exe" -q Hope it helps,
Psychoscorpic
Works fine on XP-SP2 here! 1) Make sure you've installed all the XP Hotfixes 2) Install the Patch from Autodesk. That's all I did, and it is quite happy.
Iain Denby
Viz 4.2 has problems working on SP2, yet Viz 6 will ONLY work with SP2. This is a bit dodgy if you want to upgrade but still need Viz 4 incase there are problems with the upgrade.
