cg_Butler
Hi all. I have a montage to do but the client hasn't supplied me with any CAD drawings (yet) but I've been asked to make a start on it. I have the photo that needs to me matched and thought the new perspective match in 3ds Max 2014 would be perfect but i have come across a problem with it, all down to scale. It's match the perspective nicely, as i would expect, but when i then draw a door or a window "tracing" over the background photograph, they are all way off scale. I've tried to fudge it by creating a box that's the correct size (i think) by counting bricks and using standard brick sizes, then moving the perspective around and tweaking the perspective match parameters. It's fairly accurate, and will probably do at this stage of the project. I'll do a proper camera match once i get the CAD data but i just wondered if anyone had found a less "fudgy" way of using this new tool but got a better result regarding scale? I'm not happy with it to be honest as when i draw a door it's 3750mm high which, from my knowledge and experience is highly unlikely to be correct! John Dollus
line up your perspective, create an object of known size (the door) and then select that object as your base in the perspective match options. It will lock down your center to that object and you can adjust the scale as needed to fit the reference.
cg_Butler
I'll have to give it another go when I definitely know the size of something. I'm still waiting for the CAD drawings! Thanks though, I'll give it a try when i receive them.
