Chris MacDonald
So I've been given a rough budget of 2 grand (without tax) to aim for, for a new workstation. My current one is gradually failing more and more every day, but to be fair it was only ever a glorified gaming machine, not a proper workstation. These are the specs I've picked (based on the Dell T3600 base): Intel Xeon E5-1650 Six Core 3.2GHz (3.8 W/ Turbo Boost)3GB Nvidia Quadro K400016GB 1600MHz DDR3 ECC Ram1 TB HDDPlus all the other usual stuff, win 7 64 bit pro, etc. It has come in at just over 2 grand at £2154 We're almost certainly going to have to go through Dell to get the workstation (office politics, don't ask!) - just wondering if anyone can better the spec without smashing the budget? Dimitris Tolios
Well, it doesn't look bad and since you have to have Dell, what comments could we make? I don't get how a glorified gaming machine can be a bad workstation by any stretch, and I would prefer a 3930K based 1P machine myself, but Dell only does Xeons...
