Playdo
Hello all, I have a small image (1000x1000px) that I'd like to blow up (+ print) to A3 width - 29.7cm. I know it's very low res, but I'm looking for any tips that might help. I tried live tracing it in Illustrator (to enlarge after), but it produced a lot of colour banding in the sky area. Any tips welcome - Cheers Edited June 12, 2013 by Playdo
RyderSK
I have great results from FractalResize from onOne soft. For example, 1920px to quadruple for 300ppi print for A3 yielded very nice results, esp. edges are kept much sharper compared to what Photoshop would give. With that said, 1000px is just too small, it's gonna look blurry no matter what in A3. Nothing to do there, no sort of magic
Matt McDonald
There is a technique called "stair interpolation" where in Photoshop, you increase the size of the image in 10% increments using "bicubic smoother". You might be trying to enlarge the image too much but this is the technique I'd try.
Dimitris Tolios
I have used earlier versions (havent used it for some time) of the fractal resizing plugin for PS myself with very good results. The end-product was more-or-less larger than life car shots for a car dealership. Issue is that A3 is a "handheld" print size. The viewer will be very close and will have a lot of time to "inspect" it and it will look low-res/low sharpness nomatter what, you just have to pick the best method to do what you want knowing it can never be "perfect". The same 1000px image could be blown to a billboard size and would look fine @ 100s of meters away, but will look meh on an A3 print 30 cm from your face...
