petersmith1
Hi have a 3d house model and would like to put it against a 2d image. I am having real difficulties with aligning the house perspective with the camera position. I have placed cardboard boxes in the scene whilst taking the photos to help me with camera point poisiotn but am the camera alignment is not right. Can anyone help me with this? I have read somewhere that lower camera focal point amounts can cause difficulties. Does anyone have any methods which work for them? Thankyou. RyderSK
Are you on 3dsMax 2014 yet ? Imho the new perspective tool (almost identical to the on in sketchup, except it allows for third vanishing point movement too) is more intuitive than the older point calibration, which really works precisely only under very certain conditions. If you don't have the possibility of 2014, such perspective tool is also a free script/plugin.
Nicolai Bongard
Locate your image in whatever folder it is, then right click and select properties on your image and go to the details tab. You should be able to see the camera settings you had on your camera when you took the picture. Then you apply those settings, and then use the camera matching. However, you are probably attempting to match the cardboard box points to a box youve placed in 3ds max with the same dimensions - so i guess perhaps one problem is that the real life cardboard box was not 100% level/aligned/flat, and when you try to match it to the digital cardboard box youve placed then the buildings will not be at the right angle? Thats all i could think of, good luck!
petersmith1
thanks everyone. I read somewhere that you can look up your camera settings at dpreview.com to find out what the width of the cameras sensor size is. This help in determining the correct focal length when inputting into 3d max camera settings.
