peterletten
Studio/Institution: Virtual IdeasGenre: OtherSoftware: 3ds max, Vray, After Effects, PhotoshopDescription: Hi there, I'd love to get some feedback on my personal showreel I recently put together: http://vimeo.com/peterletten/showreel password: cgarch Its all work from the past 5 years that I did during my previous employment as Project & Team Lead and Senior Artist at a Arch Viz company here in Sydney. I'm specifically looking for feedback on the edit, timing, flow.... and the music! had some very mixed responses. It was meant to be a bit tongue in cheek but may have missed the mark. RyderSK
Well, the music got on my nerves in 20 seconds, I surely advice against ;- ). I would also make it somehow shorter, lot of shots are too similiar and get repetitive fast. I would also cut away shots which feature 3D people too up-close, those are not a good sight. Generally good work
John Dollus
I agree with Juraj. Specifically, the music choice comes across as a bad decision instead of being tongue in cheek. Show your sense of humor more in an interview or cover letter but not in a demo reel that you want people to take seriously. I'd also suggest adding in a breakdown section indicating what your contribution was to each shot (see editing note above about using fewer shots). From the reel, I can't tell if you did everything yourself or if you just placed the trees, ya know?
Justin Hunt
Some really good work there, agree with the other comments. Maybe too much residential? Jhv
peterletten
Ha. Alright, the music is gone! I had some fairly luke warm responses amongst friends as well. Will also cut it down some more. Can anyone suggest some sites/forums with a broad selection of decent showreels? They dont seem to feature so heavily on here. Thanks
Tommy L
I actually quite like the music, nice and up-beat without being heavy. I also greatly admire your work. It is long for a reel, but dont cut too much as there aree not really any weak shots in there.
Nic H
I agree with whats been said. It needs a minute or more cut out of it (too much repetition of the same looking stuff) and the music is awful im afraid. Personally I would remove the shots with the robot 3D people in the foreground. The work looks to be of a very high quality overall.
peterletten
Ok chaps. Comments taken on board. Music has been brought into this century and theres been an aggressive cull of over a minutes footage. Timing prob not quite finessed but would be great to get any other feedback. heni30
Some of those sped up shifts to a different scene create a distracting nervous energy. I agree paring it it down 30 -40% would make it much more effective. When you come to a nice shot that grabs people, repetition or following it with something ordinary dilutes the initial effect. I kinda like the music genre but you might be able to find a track with a softer edge. But then agian, I feel it's more appropriate for urban stuff and not so much for residential - maybe you could have 2 different styles that compliment the work being shown?
