Daf
Hey! I need a star shape - 5 point - I create the star as a spline and extrude. So far so good. But I need a lot of verts and edges for detailing (dents, dings, damage) on the face of the star. How would you suggest creating a high poly count star? Thanks! Jose Negrete
tesselate the polygons once its a solid? + http://www.scriptspot.com/3ds-max/scripts/quad-cap
cg_Butler
Here's a very simple way. Arguably not the best, but should do a job! 1. Draw your star spline. 2. Extrude your star by whatever amount you require. 3. Add a quadify mesh and set it to a low number. Something like 1%. 4. Add a turbo smooth. 5. then it's up to you how you do the dents, dings and damage! Displacement, noise modifier etc etc. Example Maxfile. Daf
Thank you Andy and Jose! I guess I should have mentioned that I'm using Max 2009 - I don't see quadify mesh in my list of modifiers, maybe it was added in a later version? Thanks again! Jose Negrete
in that case. try to tesselate the sides then use inset on the top and bottom faces to get quads at least along the perimeter at the top.
