VRay Sketchup Emissive materials problem

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I have been using Vray 4 SU for about 6 months now and have ran into a problem several times. I cant seem to render emissive materials correctly.

I first ran into the problem when I was doing a neon sign on a facade for a client a few months ago.

I set up the emissive material following the V-Ray manual and then when I render the material shows up as if it were emitting light but no light is cast on any objects from it.

Initially I thought it was a problem with my options and I just finished the neon PP as I needed the GI and physical camera on for the render. but I have now gone back to try again with a simple test scene and am running into the same problem.

I pushed it to the extreme just to make sure it wasn't a problem with intensity.

GI is off, Physical Camera is off everything else default, intensity is at 15,000 (!), its double sided. The Emissive object shows up but doesn't light any of the rest of the scene (see attachment.)

Just to try and sway it I made the material below it have a glossy reflection still no result :(

Any suggestions welcome.

Thanks, Jonathan

What version of V-Ray for SketchUp are you using? I have used emissive material many times successfully for lit signage, etc. One thing about it though is that you cannot use it as the main source of lighting in a scene because you will get splotches in your final solution (you can see it in my attachment). I think they are working on a better emitter material that will work more like the light material in Max but for now, emissive is really only good for the lit effect. With that said, you should still be getting light radiating from your object though.
