Justin Hunt
Has anyone had any luck getting Populate to render with DBR? The textures for the people are randomly generated and stored in a local temp file, the machines on the render farm dont pick up those textures and therefore render as grey. Any suggestions would be helpful JHV
Devin Johnston
Can't you copy the maps to a shared drive and remap them, I know that's not ideal but it should work. I haven't seen an information on populate, does anyone know if they plan on expanding the model library or allowing 3rd party models to be used with it? Scott Schroeder
What if you repath the Temp directory from the configure system paths to a temp folder on the network?
Justin Hunt
I tried to remap the textures to a shared drive, no luck. I think its the way the textures are created "on the fly" with Evolver. I did come across a trick where you export the people out as FBX then re-import them. Of cause you will loose the animation and the ability to make changes through populate, but at least it rendered. Whilst it is possible to change the texture maps you will loose any changes if you re-simulate, ie the textures are re-created. At this stage I dont think its possible to use your own custom geometry

Scott Schroeder
Thanks Scot, that worked, Awesome, because I have to use populate and network rendering later this week.
Justin Hunt
Just remember that all the "temp" rubbish from Max will go in there, so be sure you have enough disk space and clear it out regularly. I found a whole bunch of temp files , around 600 mb worth, from months ago that I didn't know existed. jhv
cg_Butler
Awesome, because I have to use populate and network rendering later this week. Me too. Glad i dipped in to this before i ran in to the same problem!
dande
Thats great. I've been creating point cache files for them and converting them to meshs to keep the animation and get over the texture issue. Remapping the tmp folder is a lot easier.
