dsp_418
Hi there, I usually turn on zdepth filtering in the Render Elements settings. Lately I believe I watched a Nuke tutorial (can't remember which one though) where the advice was to work with aliased edges therefore leaving zdepth filtering off. Is that possible? I was watching just for sake of curiosity and I didn't pay much attention, I cannot say for sure it was exactly what the guy said. As I'm comping in AE anti-aliased edges work definitely better than aliased, maybe is different in Nuke...
CJI
The reason they say not to filter ZDepth passes is because the edge pixels will be blurred to produce a smooth edge, this results in an inaccurate zdepth pass for use within filters etc. Conventional method is to leave it unfiltered but if you are happy with results of a filtered pass then just use it. As long as you're finished result is what you are looking for it doesnt really matter.
Chris MacDonald
filtering it will produce incorrect results around edges.
