Tsiki
Hi, I have a SKP imported scene with 30 buildings, 5 stories in each. Each building "optimized" and exported to xref to reduce scene file size. I also use layers for each building type and freeze these layers. Current file size is 110 MB. I have difficulties to work with this scene as everything works sooooo slow. Also MAX get freeze often so I have to kill the process and reopen MAX. What can I do to improve UI response time and to complete the project in days and not in months (as it looks like now)? I thank for any suggestion.
Corey Beaulieu
Your file size may be low, but with so much xref-ed you should be adding their individual file sizes in too.... Xref-ing is great so that pieces can be worked on by other people without the hassle of the full size and then at render time everyone's pieces can come together and complete and image. If you don't need to view them in your main file, either turn them off while you work or at the very least display them as box.
Scott Schroeder
Are your SketchUp buildings typical SketchUp geometry that has 6 trillion objects? Max works better with large poly counts rather than large object counts, meaning a 1 mil poly object displays better than 1 mil 1 poly objects. You might want to collapse each building into one object with a multi-sub material.
Tsiki
Thank you so much Corey for immediate response. I hide now in my scene all freezed building layers and now scene runs fine. Thank you for the Xref information. It does helped a lot.
Tsiki
Thank you Scott, I'll try it also. So far I'm not using this technique in this scene
