mariosantana
Does anyone know why this happens and how can it be avoided/fixed? if you see the pics there's something weird with render mesh. I checked the geometry and everything is where it is supposed to be. this is 3ds max 2013. first one is a rendered image, second is screen capture. Jose Negrete
can you do another screen cap w/ edged faces on? It looks like the lower edge of the chamfer was target welded down *but there is still a vertex where the chamfer corner belongs (not sure if that makes sense) *edit: thats what it looked like to me. mariosantana
it was created using a profile curve and sweep command. here is the screen cap with edges on.

Jose Negrete
Shouldnt you have 2 edges on the top tiers like seen on the lowest chamfer?
mariosantana
you're right. The strange thing is that row looks good everywhere else. how can i add an edge there?
Jose Negrete
just wondering if it may be caused by the profile curve. Maybe all the vertices are not coplanar. or if your corner chamfers/fillet have bezier curves and some of those handles are not coplanar? just guessing here. *in edit poly, you can connect vertices using the connect tool under edit vertices rollout Edited August 9, 2013 by acad-gatsu
mariosantana
that worked but it created a bunch of faces and distorted adjacent faces.this was created in rhino and imported as 3ds object. i think it may be easier to reimport it. thanks for all your help.
