Chad Warner
I've been having an issue with certain Max files, let me try to explain: -1 max file of a building that has an dwg link. -1 max file that has the building xrefed into it. The second file also has a dwg link of the sitework. The file will open/close/save/merge objects/etc up to a point at which I can't determine, at which once the file is saved and closed, I can't get it to open up again. I've tried merging the whole file into a new file, but the same result happens with the new file. It's as if once whatever it is that is happening 'happens' the file and contents are corrupted. Any thoughts on why or how this is happening? I'm using V-ray and Max 2014 sp2 on a windows 7 64 bit OS. Thanks!
Scott Schroeder
It could be the dwg links or the source dwg has something corrupted or funky going on in it. What if you bind the link into the file?
Chad Warner
Well, I sent the file to our reseller just to try, and he was able to open the file with all of the materials/plugins/maps missing. I attempted the same thing here by disconnecting the mapped network drives and I was able to open the file off of a local drive. It does find the xrefed file because they are in the same directory. Do you think this would indicate a corrupt map, dwg, or plugin?
Tommy L
What are the file sizes like?
Chad Warner
What are the file sizes like? Nothing serious. The building that is being xrefed is 15 MB, the master file is 30.
Tommy L
Seems like the .dwg is the common denominator. Did you do the usual cleanup? Edit: To trouble-shoot you could re-direct the file-link to a different .dwg Edited August 12, 2013 by Tommy L
Chad Warner
Seems like the .dwg is the common denominator. Did you do the usual cleanup? Edit: To trouble-shoot you could re-direct the file-link to a different .dwg So now I am able to open the file that didn't work before, and I detach the xref, bind the linked dwg, and resave as a different file, And then I can't open the re-saved file. This is driving me nuts!!
Tommy L
Its a long shot, but you could try saving the DWG as a really old acad format, like acad 2000. I know some versions of max have problems with anything after 2005. Im still on 2012 tho, so Im not sure about recent releases.
Chad Warner
I haven't been able to figure out the problem but just to compound the issue, if I try to merge in any object from the file that is messed up, whatever the new file is acts the same way. It's very infuriating.
