Hmm, my conclusion is that there's not enough of a difference in processing power to upgrade yet. I've compared my laptop to various i7s and a xeon or two and there's just a mild difference. Which doesn't really warrant spending a grand.

 

Ram is a different matter, as well as GPU. But I may have to wait until the hexacores come down in price.

 

The 3930k 6 core is either about $500 or £500 right now.
