It's about both education and networking among professionals that are normally not accessible on the various forums. To me, if the session consists of a tutorial I could find online, then it's a bit of a waste of my time and money. The education sessions are generally directed toward navigating the business side and expanding horizons through some creative use of our skills and less of a step-by-step walkthrough of specific tools.

 

Everyone there is always extremely generous with their knowledge and has been doing this sort of thing for far longer than most so it's nice to have that sort of access. The number of attendees is usually

A good example would be the first year I attended. I ended up splitting a room to save some money and roomed with a fellow from Canada. After a brief introduction, I realized I had one of his books on my shelf at home. That just doesn't happen at most conferences.

 

As a digital artist, the sketch tours can be a great opportunity to learn how to 'see the environment' and translate that to a composition. Every artist has a different take on the scene so it's a real eye opener to even walk around and observe traditional artists if you are shy about sketching yourself.
