prathameshbhavsar
Studio/Institution: PersonalGenre: Residential InteriorSoftware: 3dsmax, VrayDescription: Guys this image I did was for fun. I followed tutorials online & used some 3D blocks to make this image. I also tried to create my own textures(One on table & wall behind). I also took wood floor image and made it white..My question is Have you guys seen such wood flooring? Is it possible to have "White painted mirror finish wood floor". (I haven't seen white wood flooring in my life). About Lighting- Do you think it looks like daylight? seems unreal to me.. Any!..absolutely any Comment & Critique welcome... Jasoncw
It's possible that that kind of wood exists, but I haven't seen it either. Normally "white" wood is a light cream color. And painted wood wouldn't be really reflective, it would be similar to wall paint. But painted wood also more or less has a consistent color (the color of the paint), so you wouldn't want much of the grain in the diffuse map. heni30
There are inconsistencies on the back wall. The wall sculpture on the left seems razor sharp and brightly colored - then the doors next to it seems very fuzzy and washed out, then the clock seems in between the two as far as definition goes. The color of the sculpture table is too saturated - same as the flower pot and leaves. The scale of the lamp is too small. The coffee table is also too saturated when compared to the muted tones of the couch behind it. The red shoes are a tired cliche. You need to look at interior design magazines to get a feel for natural compositions of furniture and accessories. (The coffee table would be a lot closer to the couch.) prathameshbhavsar
Thank you guys for reply..Surely help me to improve! Jason-- Yeah I searched on google but didn't find something like that...only closest I found was light yellow color...So maybe I think I will go with white painted wood here See example below... What you think?? George-- Sounds like I have lot to learn...I will definitely work on better composition next time...I agree about inconsistent sharpness here..I found that my Global subdivision multiplier was 4,I turned it to 32..now it seems like better sharpness...but now it takes longer time to render...that one was 20min. render and now it takes more than an hour...Anything I am missing? notamondayfan
Lighting - It needs better direction, it looks you are lighting left to right, which I think is a good start, but it needs to be stronger, and sharper to give some better highlights and shadows. At the very least I'd want to see shadows being cast off the coffee table and small props. Materials - You have 4 different types of wood, which is very confusing. To me I'd aim to have all the wood simular tones to the right coffee table. The floor looks wrong to me. Just search for "parquet flooring", or even "limed parquet". If you are using a parquet flooring, the rest of the room details need to match, such as a nice skirting, cornice, window detail. Composition - I would make the image less letterbox in ratio, so we see more floor and a bit of ceiling. Also seeing the from edge of the rug would work well. The coffee table looks large, perhaps it's the camera position. The lamp looks very small and lost. Why is there a bike there? Think about what the image is saying. I can't imagine who is living here. Someone who wears red high heals, but also enjoys mountain biking?
prathameshbhavsar
Thanks Dean! I needed that.. About lighting I already started looking online tutorials. Materials- I too wasn't convinced with such variety..I will definitely reassign those...(Just to let you knw the front coffee table material was entirely done by me from the scratch and for the first time too...so even it looked wrong I kept it..) Composition- I will make better composition next time...however I did not want ceiling in this particular composition..but yeah from the edge of the rug will also do. btw What do you think about rug? Is it too black? Should I make furs longer and wavy? About Cycle- haha maybe I will just delete those red shoes..everybody is saying they are wrong...I keep my bike inside my living so I don't think I will change that. I will put an open magazine on coffee table..and a little book rack under the sculpture deleting that round table...what say?..I would try more objects but honestly I can't model more complicated objects...and I don't have big model library here...I just started learning 3ds max two/three weeks ago. Can you point me out some useful tutorials? about texturing,Lighting specifically? I saw the portfolio from ur signature..that's an impressive portfolio! I hope I will be able to do something like that soon..!
notamondayfan
Lighting wise, try and find a reference image and try to breakdown what's happening. There are 100s of tutorials online, just keep watching them! The coffee table itself looks fine to me, maybe a touch too large compared to the sofa. Find a simular one online and copy the dimensions if you are unsure. The rug again looks fine to me, perhaps it's slightly too large. I'd personally want to see the left edge in the shot. The cycle is fine being in the shot, but you need to really think about the propping and styling. Putting it there because you do that is fine, but do you own a pair of stilettos? Fine photographs of where a cycle is shown, and see what they do. Perhaps there are more cycling related items around the room, a helmet on the floor, drinks bottle, magasines, sun glasses, gloves, and maybe some kind of cycling inspired art? If you're struggling to model items, do some poly modelling tutorials. I believe to be a good artist, you need the basics first. I started out as a modeller, and then built on that. A grey clay render of models you've made will always impress much more than a quickly thrown together scene using stock models in my eyes. Anyway, keep at it, it's a good start and the more you work at it, the easier it becomes! Dean
prathameshbhavsar
Thanks again Dean! Yeah the coffee table is big...I wanted it to be big...but camera position is making it bigger...I just made it smaller and moved it closer to sofa now it looks fine to me. for the lighting I think it's all about experimenting and following ur intuition to make it look real..at-least that's what I learned... I will take your advice and will start building my own library. I followed some poly modelling tutorials online...even some amazing spline modelling tutorials are available on youtube. Will share my work here whenever I make progress.
prathameshbhavsar
@Jason & George, I replied you guys but I don't knw where it went.. Jason- I have decided with this type of flooring http://bleuepiece.files.wordpress.com/2011/11/white-painted-wood-floors-vis-cococozy.jpg George-Inconsistencies in sharpness maybe a result of low global subdivision multiplier. For the quick rendering it was on 4.00...If I increase it render time increases..this is just 20min. render or maybe composition is too artificial....or both this guy has done similar but real good job http://www.cgarchitect.com/content/portfolioitems/2013/07/82468/CAM_01_large.jpg Lot of inspiration here!!
