evanmichalski
Been struggling with this lighting setup for a good while now. Here's the scene: http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&sl=ja&tl=en&u=http%3A%2F%2Fcgworld.jp%2Fregular%2Fgaryu%2Fcgw164-wazakura.html&sandbox=1 I get the idea he's using photometric lights and volume lighting, but it appears he's also using an ies light? But I don't know for sure. Also, I also can't tell if he has a wall in the background to reflect the light, because my photometric light won't shine obviously without one. Last question, do you guys think he's also using an hdri with a low multiplier setting? This is what I've been able to come up with, I've got an photometric point light with an ies attached to it, and 2 plane lights on both sides. http://imgur.com/RKlLwi2 Unfortunately it doesn't feel right because that photometric lighting from the background isn't giving off the proper illumination, or maybe it's because I need to setup the other lights properly, or was it post production work? Iono, been pulling my hair on this one...
yourfather
This OP is old but i thought i'd chime in. Your object doesnt appear to be lit by the top light. Reposition your main object so that the top light interacts with it. also, in the original tutorial sample you posted, it looks like hes using some type of atmospheric effect on the image. maybe glow.
