AlboRegency
Hey guys, I need to do some wood paneling such as the example attached. It seems simple, but I'm not sure what the best way is to go about it after searching. Should I use photoshop to create a pattern with a simple wood texture and 2 cm gap? Should I split the wall somehow and just apply wood texture? Please advise. I use wood panels whether it's horizontal cedar planks typically seen on modern developments or squarish panels like the examples shown a lot in my projects and I want to know how to do it right. CliveG
Personally I would use CG-Source floor generator script and their multi texture mapping for this. Even though it has the slight inconvenience of having to be executed on the flat then rotated up onto vertical surfaces. I would probably assemble my own material rather than necessarily using any of the CG-Source ones, but the multi texture mapping gives you the ability to adjust the difference between each panel's gamma, hue and saturation for added realism and convenience. Chris MacDonald
I had to make exactly this panelling last week, I did exactly what was just suggested above, Floor Generator script. Worked a treat.
AlboRegency
That's great, I'll give it a try. There is also MightyTiles pro beta out for free that I think works similarly. I wonder if the script would allow you to have custom sizes for some of the panels. Maybe I can stretch if I have to or use photoshop clone stamp as a last case scenario. I will post results by tomorrow.
AlboRegency
ok I got the script and I can use it on planes but not the face of my walls. Is there a work around this? I already have my walls and windows in place, If I can create panels for the front walls and apply material, it would be great.
Chris MacDonald
You need to trace the walls with a spline & rotate them flat, run the script, then rotate & position the geometry where it needs to be on the walls.
AlboRegency
Here is what I did. I can control the height of the boards but not how long each board is. There's always photoshop for that part. cgsource should update the script though.
Corey Beaulieu
You don't need Floor Generator to create random ID's, just make the wall with the paneling that you want and break the verts and apply a Material By Element Modifier. With this you can just use the vray-multitex map to create a random selection of boards. I like this method for including bump and reflection maps as well:http://bertrand-benoit.com/blog/2011/08/03/vintage-herringbone-parquet-tutorial-and-free-maps/ (Skip to the material part)
CliveG
I agree... it's a mighty good tool as it is, but it could still be improved too. However you should be able to control either the length / width specifically or unlock the "L" toggle and then set max / min lengths (or widths) to work within.
