Alex York
Hi folks, I have a set of photos of various sculptures, all shot from the same position with the object rotating on the spot. Autodesk ReCap Photo doesn't work with shots from the same spot, 123D Catch doesn't work at all for some reason. Any recommendations for other photo modelling software that will work with shots from the same position? Models will need to be generated in a format that will play nicely with max. Cheers,
Dejan Sparovec
For 123D Catch the object needs to be stationary and the camera needs to move around it, not the other way round. By rotating the object you are changing the shadows and the object's correlation with any surrounding objects which confuses the software. Also I think it helps to have some kind of an environment other than a white studio (or at least some markers maybe), so that it can catch any surrounding points that might help to figure out the object's orientation in each photo. I don't know about other photo modeling software but I' pretty sure they all work in a similar way...
Alex York
Thanks! I figured as much... had a bad feeling when we received the images.

Jonathan
As already mentioned turn-tabling objects is generally not the way to go as the background is necessary in creating a robust point cloud. 123D is ok but quite limited and low resolution. I've been using Agisoft Photoscan for a few years now: http://www.agisoft.ru/products/photoscan Its quick, very accurate and well priced. I recently captured Skara Brae with it: http://pixogram.co.uk/?portfolio=touching-neolithic
