Matt McDonald
I figure you can displace it or model it and boolean out the windows. I'm curious if anyone has a trick for keeping it a little more editable without displacement. Do share...
matthewgriswold
You might play around with this script. It allows you to custom rotate about the X, Y or Z. That might give you the lap board effect. Also has a gap spacing setting if you were looking for a reveal between the boards. It's an MSE, so just download and run it. http://www.scriptspot.com/3ds-max/scripts/wallbuilder
CliveG
OK, it's not my area of expertise but how about.... 1 spline that traces the footprint of the building at foundation level. 1 Spline that traces the footprint of the building at window sill level and a last spline probably a clone of the 1st located at window head level. Then a vertical spline of the profile of the lap board siding (or shiplap to us in Aus) Use the sweep modifier on the 3 original splines with the profile spline as the custom section type. I'd probably then trace a spline around each window reveal and sweep a trim around it to hide the open edges of the boards and bingo, you've got an editable siding. It worked for me, seems simple and editable, but as I say, it's not my day to day... Just a thought.
